It’s Fat Tuesday, and while everyone is in New Orleans is celebrating we’re lucky to have friends that have helped us create our own tradition. Last year MommieDe sent us a little Family Style Mardi Gras kit and we’ve turned it into a yearly tradition.
What makes this so much fun is how easy it is. We got some beads, masks and party horns for style and tiny babies to hide in our king cake (AKA donuts). Part of the tradition is whoever finds the baby will keep the festivities going for the coming year.
This year I kept our celebration simple and bought some Dunkin Donuts and hid the baby in one of them. Watching the kids pick which one they wanted was so fun and one of them found the baby. The best part is the other isn’t too upset because, well they’re eating a donut.
It’s small and simple, but a tradition I’m excited to have and one that the whole family can enjoy.
Do you celebrate Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday? What are your traditions?

How fun, and that is a great idea to hide the baby in donuts! We get a king cake every year. My daughter is married now, so it’s just my son who gets to look for the baby! We buy decorations at Dollar Tree and eat something cajun for dinner, too.
The the idea of eating a Cajun dinner. I’ll be adding that for future years!
