I love giving my kids something special for the holidays. With Valentine’s Day only a few days away, and on a Saturday, I want to give them something they can play with. So I thought about what they like and knew immediately I should make them a Valentine Pirate Hat!

DIY Valentine Pirate hat
I was excited about my idea, but really didn’t want to put a lot of time and energy into pulling out my sewing machine to make this so I decided to use things I already had around the house.

Supplies Needed:
Red Felt – You need something bigger than a square so a 1/4 yard will give you lots of hats!
Pink & White Foam
Scissors
Newspaper
Glue

How to make a Pirate Hat
Step 1: Take some newspaper and draw the shape of your hat. I did a simple design
Step 2: Make sure to layer your felt on top of each other.
Step 3: Cut the felt using the newspaper pattern
Step 4: Add the sticky back for fabric Velcro® to the inside of the hat on one side, then place the other piece on top and push the fabric down.
Step 5: Repeat on other side
Step 6: Cut a circle with the white foam
Step 7: Cut a heart with the pink foam and 2 arrows
Step 8: Use the Velcro® to stick the white circle on the center of the hat
Step 9: Use glue to put the heart and arrows on the white circle
Step 10: Give it to your favorite Matey!

It’s seriously a 10 minute project and your kids will love it! I have to admit since discovering the sticky back for fabric Velcro® I find my DIYs can be done so much quicker that keeping it stocked in the craft supplies is a must!
So tell me do you give your little ones Valentines? What do you like to do?
