Last week Eleanor and I took a field trip with her play group to Springfield Fire Department for a tour and talk with the firefighters.

We got to the fire station and were greeted by some friendly firefighters who were eager to chat with the kids. They showed us all the gear they have to wear and how they wear a mask that makes them talk funny, but it’s still firefighter Tony, so there’s no need to be scared.  After he was all suited up he gave the kids high 5’s, which was a great way for the kids to be comfortable around him.

Next up was a tour of the different kinds of fire trucks, we saw the ladder, the boat, even the jaws of life.  We also got to “drive” an older firetruck, but the highlight was seeing the lights come on engine #4.

The day ended with them pulling a truck out and letting us take tons of pictures.  It was a great visit and I’m so thankful that these heroes take the time to talk with the kids, answer their questions and educate everyone on fire safety and the number to call when theirs a fire!

Thank you Springfield Fire Department!

Does your kid love a fire truck?  Contact your local fire station, you never know what types of programs or info they have for young ones.
