It always amazes me all the summer fun we have in Maplewood, NJ. I also remember it being really hard to figure out everything that happens when we first moved here, so I wanted to pull together a one stop list of all the summer happenings from festivals, to rummage sales to supporting local artists and businesses. Oh and everything is FREE to attend!
May:
5/29 – 11am – 5pm – MayFest on Springfield Ave. – A fun festival with food, crafts, kids activities and fun.
5/30 – 9am – Memorial Day Parade
5/30 – 11:30am – 18th Annual Duck Race at Memorial Park – This is such a cute event. Sponsor a duck by getting your tickets from local supporting stores throughout the town. Here’s a recap from when we went a few years ago.
Ongoing Summer events:
June-October – Farmers Market – Mondays 2pm-7pm on Indiana St. & Springfield Ave.
June -August – Summer Reading Program This years theme is Circus! (both libraries have a ton of events and fun planned so check out the full schedule HERE)
Words Bookstore – They always have local artists and writers as well as readings and special events. I also have my fingers crossed they do the Where’s Waldo again this summer!
June:
6/4 – 9am-12pm – Home Depot Kids Workshop – The 1st Saturday of each month means Home Depot for my family. This month build dad a Smart Phone holder.
6/4 – 9am-3pm – St. Joe’s Rummage Sale – 767 Prospect St.
6/5 – 12:30pm-3pm – St. Joe’s Rummage Sale – 767 Prospect St.
6/5 – 11am-5pm – Artists Studio Tour – Our town has some amazing artists and this is a great way to see them in their habitat and maybe buy some art for that wall you’ve been staring at!
6/9 – 6pm-9pm – Girls Night Out – Downtown Maplewood – This annual event is all about shopping, dining, music and fun right in Downtown Maplewood.
6/11 -4pm – String Extravaganza – Columbia High School Auditorium – featuring Festival Strings and Student Chamber Ensembles
6/12 – 12pm-6pm – North Jersey Pride Festival at Memorial Park – This family friendly festival brings together LGBTQ and straight allies from all over the state. Come out, dance have fun and show your support!
6/13 -7PM – Pollock & Friends Concert at the Woodland – This is a free concert, but there is a suggested donation of $20 (tax deductible) and it goes to helping Music education if our schools. All ages welcome, but you have to reserve tickets.
6/18 – 11am-4pm – 8th Annual Green Day Fair – I love that our town wants the world to be a better place, and this festival is helping to teach my family about sustainable choices.
6/30 – 7pm-9pm – Morrow Church Turnover Sale – This sale is call the “Miracle on Baker Street” and has been happening for over 80 years. I can’t even explain how massive and amazing it is, and I’ve found some great buys. It happens over multiple days, but I like to be there on the first day! Even if you don’t buy anything it’s still worth a trip to see all the stuff.
July:
7/3 – 9am-12pm – Home Depot Kids Workshop – It’s the 1st Saturday so head in to build and add a pin to your apron!
7/4 – 7am -10pm – Maplewood 4th of July* – This is a full day of fun. A 5K race* in the morning, kids parade, baking contest, ice cream eating contest, adult softball, and that’s just the morning and a small taste of all the activities planned. There’s also the Zerbini family circus* and fireworks* at Memorial park. (*there is a fee/ticket needed for the circus and fireworks. The 5K has a fee as well) Here’s a recap from one year we attended!

7/9 9am- noon Morrow Church Turnover Sale
7/9 & 7/10 – 13th Annual Maplewoodstock – Memorial Park – This is a 2 day music festival that has it all. Bring a blanket and chairs and set up for the day. There’s fun for kids and adults and of course music, food and dancing!

7/16 9am- 12pm – Morrow Church Turnover Sale
7/17 – Maplewood Village Sidewalk Sale – Support the local shops by shopping the sidewalk sale!
