Sharing is caring!

There are certain things we really want our kids to know about us and to teach them in life.  One of the things we really want them to understand is giving to others.

What is giving?  It could be making a monetary donation to a cause or organization, donating toys, coats or food for a drive or giving your time to something that needs your help.

Since we moved to the burbs we’ve wanted to find something to commit our time and energy to.  There are so many causes that we decided to go with something that means a lot to us, the arts.

There’s a great theater in Millburn, NJ called The Paper Mill Playhouse.  They put on 5-6 shows a year some transfer to Broadway, Newsies started there, and some are Broadway hopefuls, Honeymoon in Vegas with Tony Danza just closed and hopes to move to the great white way.

The way that we are volunteering is by ushering shows, helping out with their social media, or working their special events.

It doesn’t take a lot of time, but we like going to the theater and volunteering.  It feels good to help out this organization and meet other people who also have a love for the arts.

What I really like is when we started doing this we were explaining volunteering to Eleanor.  She is starting to understand it and I love that we’re teaching her that donating time to something is important and it makes us happy.

While we still make monetary donations, and buy food, toys and coats for drives their something about being involved year round that really makes you feel good and like you’re really helping out.

I seriously suggest you look in your community and see what you can get involved with.  There are so many organizations that would love your help, whether it’s 1 hour a week or a few hours a month , I promise you’ll feel good about knowing your time is greatly appreciated and that your volunteering for something your passionate about or believe in.
