I love taking time to do something fun with my kids. It’s always nice to be able to spend time together and when I can also teach them a few lessons it’s even better. Since Lovey had a birthday coming up we thought it would be fun to surprise her with some cupcakes made by the kids. So we headed off to ShopRite to buy all the supplies to make Surprise Cupcakes together.

I’m a big fan of ShopRite and was excited to pick up our favorite Funfetti Mix, but then I spotted a sign for the NEW PillsburyTM Filled Pastry Bag and knew it would be perfect to make our surprise even easier for the kids to help me decorate the cupcakes.

I love the idea of these New Pastry Bags and since it comes in 3 flavors, Vanilla, Chocolate Fudge and Cream Cheese I know I’ll be picking some up throughout the year for lots of birthdays, school treats, and holidays. I also really appreciate that the star tip will allow us to do 3 different designs, stars, rosettes or waves.

I love how much my kids enjoy doing the little things of helping from placing cupcake liners in the tin to making sure the timer is set so we have perfect cupcakes.

Once our cupcakes are ready and have cooled completely the real fun begins for making our Surprise Cupcakes.

I was in charge of making the hole on top of the cupcake. I used a melon baller to scoop out a small amount.

My son was then in charge of filling the cupcakes with sprinkles. I suggest putting the cupcakes on a cookie sheet so you don’t have sprinkles everywhere.

Once they are filled with sprinkles place the top back into the cupcake.

Then it’s time to put the pastry bag to work. All we had to do was pull it out of the box and then rip the perforated bottom but the tip. I gave my daughter a quick tutorial on how to properly hold the bag, both at the top and middle. Then showed her how to push the frosting down and then twist out the frosting from the top.

She decided to go for the rosette design, and I was very impressed with how well and serious she took the job. I also want to point out that I LOVE that the bag is fully sealed so I didn’t have to worry about her getting frosting everywhere.

I loved seeing her concentrate and when she finished one she would pass it to her brother for him to decorate with sprinkles.

It was a perfect system and there were plenty of laughs and maybe a few extra fingers filled with frosting.

After she got the hang of the rosettes she asked me to help teach her the stars, and we worked together to make a few with that design.

I was so proud of both kids working together to make such a fun surprise for my Mom and I can’t even tell you how blown away she was when I told her that both kids did everything from making the cupcakes to frosting and decorating.

I’m thrilled that Pillsbury has come out with such an amazing product that helps parents on a time crunch with the ease of use and clean up. It’s great to do with the kids or if you’re strapped on time to get those bake sale cupcakes decorated.
What flavor pastry bag will you try first?
