For the past 2 years Mike has not only been a full time stay at home parent, but he’s been working to complete his Bachelor’s degree from University of Minnesota as well (while living in New Jersey). He’s been through 4 semesters of Spanish (not his favorite subject) done sciences, and a bunch of gen eds to finish out his degree in Theater.
I wanted to celebrate the day he turned in his final paper, but he didn’t want to celebrate at all. He was also worried they would pull the “You have one more class to take” so he wouldn’t let me celebrate until he got the official word from school and last Friday he woke up to find an email that said Congratulations!
To say I’m proud is an understatement. It takes a lot to go back to school as an adult. We’ve spent many a nights where family dinners are rare, because I would get home from work and he would head to the class or the library. There were many a days when homework was due and he still had the kids stay active and happy by the time I got home. Some moments have been hard, but in the end it’s worth it because he’s accomplished something important.
Sadly his diploma won’t arrive for 3 more months, but we’ve decided to celebrate by having a nice dinner together as a family and when it does come we’ll frame it and put it on the wall. Till then he gets some fun Coca-Cola graduation bottles!
Congrats Michael, Class of 2015! You did it!
