We had such a fun day when we attended the NASCAR FedEx400 at Dover International Speedway last week. Since it was our 1st time as a family I learned a few things that I thought would be helpful to share with others who want to attend this sporting event together. So here you have my 10 Tips for Families attending the Monster Mile!

10 Tips for families attending NASCAR Monster Mile

Of course you can ready about family fun day at NASCAR Monster Mile and from that I pulled together what I would have wanted to know prior to taking the kids.

Nascar Family Tips

1. Do your research – prior to attending check the website. I learned that Dover has a First Time Race Fan cheat sheet. I wished I had looked at this because it could have helped to answer a few questions I had.

2. Map and Itinerary– I had a map and itinerary in my bag prior to getting there so I knew where our seats were and what time all the different activities were. I wanted to make the most of our time so being organized was key.

3. Get there early– It really makes a difference and there is so much stuff to do and see prior to the race that you should take advantage of less traffic and free fun!

4. Wear comfortable shoes– Not only did we find ourselves walking the track, but climbing a ton of steps so leave the cute sandals home and go for comfort.

5. Bring Cash– I feel like cash is something we really don’t carry anymore, but parking is cash only and some of the food vendors only take cash as well. So be prepared.

6. Sunblock – There is no shade in the stadium and you’re not allowed to bring an umbrella so make sure you’re covered and you reapply as the day goes on. Also, don’t forget when you sit down to get the tops of your legs!

7. BYO cooler– I love that Dover allows you to bring your own food and drinks (no glass allowed) into the stadium. This not only helps the family that’s budget conscious, but also makes sure your kids will actually eat something. I had a soft cooler and it was on wheels making it easy to pull or wear.

8. Stroller or wagon – If you’re bringing young kids a stroller or wagon is very helpful. The downside is you can’t take it into the stadium so make sure you bring a lock of some sort to ensure it will be there when you’re ready to head out.

9. Ear Protection– I can not stress enough how important ear protection is for EVERYONE. It doesn’t matter if it’s foam plugs (which you can get at the Dollar Tree) or if you have some the legit earmuffs.

10. Small Dry Erase Board – We realized quickly that we stink at reading lips so I wished I had brought along a small dry erase board to communicate with the hubby or let the kids draw on.
