Driving to the Delaware Beaches has always been a comfort to me. I can remember the first summer I lived in Dewey Beach and met my best friends. We make a point to meet every year at the beach and this year’s drive held excitement, anticipation and comfort in the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport I was testing from Drive Shop.
There are certain things we like to do when we get together, talk, shop, eat, shop, tea, shop and laugh. So the fact that we could all be in the car together meant there was a lot of laughing happening. It was also nice that we all had our choice of cup holders. I was amazed with the number this car has. In the front there are 4 and in the back there are 2 so I’m set for both a hot and cold drink as the driver and there’s even a little spot for a snack or to put my phone.
The real treat was the sky roof on the car. I call it a sky roof because it was the entire roof of the car and we loved that we could look up and see a beautiful blue sky and know the ocean was right outside our window. The downside for that though was there was no light in back when it got dark, but the view was pretty amazing and we loved feeling the sunlight and warmth.
Speaking of warmth while our weekend was beautiful it was also chilly in the evening so I took full advantage of the seat warmer and loved that I had the option of high or low.
Since the trip for me is about 4 hours and a lot of highway driving I was getting about 27 miles to the gallon which was great, but New Jersey has spoiled me I haven’t pumped gas in forever so when I pulled up to a pump I forgot I had to pump it myself.
A few things I loved about this car were it had keyless entry and startup. Meaning you don’t insert the key, you just have to have the key with you. It was weird at first, but as I used it I fell in love with the fact that I didn’t have to dig around in my purse to find my keys and that it was quick to hop in and go, as long as you have your foot on the break you can start the car.
The backup cam was also a great feature that in a very crowded outlet kept pedestrians in better sight and helped me to know how much space I had. I can see this being very helpful in parallel parking as well.
Looking for a nice size trunk? This one fit all our shopping bags, and I liked how easy and light the back was to open and close. I didn’t need to use a lot of strength which is nice when you have your hands full of stuff.
The most surprising thing for me was how smooth and quiet this car drove. It wasn’t too loud so we were able to talk to each other and not yell and it gave us the chance to connect with our favorite place as we looked out the window and saw the water and marina and sand and memories we were making. Overall the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was the perfect getaway car for our beach girls weekend.
