The school year is in session and we’re creating routines, making friends and watching the kids grow and learn. I’ve also pulled together some tips to help make the school year even better for the whole family. Plus I’m sharing why we love KEEN shoes and a pretty awesome giveaway!

With a new school year we as parents need to be flexible. Schedules will need to change, and we have to figure out a new grade and teachers. This is also the case for our kids so remember to be open to changes, and talk to your kids to figure out what will help. Maybe they can help by picking out their outfit the night before, or you can prep lunches for the week.

Don’t stop reading. One of the most important things you can continue to do is read to and with your children. Some nights it’s hard and the days are long, but give them 15-20 minutes where you read with them or allow them to read to you.

Good shoes make a difference. We are in love with the new line from KEEN Kids. Knowing that my kids are walking to school in waterproof shoes means dry feet, and no shoe changing. That’s more time for learning.

You also don’t need to give up fashion for function. We love all the styles, but the Moxie Tall Waterproof Boot looks great with a dress, or jeans. On the playground, or at a fashion shoot. My daughter feels very rock and roll in these and that makes her feel confident which I love.

Take moments to play and laugh. It’s important to remember to have fun with your kids during the week. It could be on the playground, snapping silly selfies or showing off your Miss Mary Mack hand clapping skills. Play is an important part of development and something that the kids will remember.

Lastly no matter how hard we try that moment when our little ones walk out to the door to grab the bus or walk to school is emotional. I’m sure this feeling never goes away as a parent, it’s a bit happy, and terrified, but I like to remind myself that they are stepping out to learn and make the world a better place and it’s a lot easier in some great shoes from Keen.
