This past Saturday was beautiful here. The temps were in the high 40’s and I wanted to do something fun and outdoors with Eleanor. I remembered reading that Reeves-Reed Arboretum has Discovery Saturday for kids and thought lets check it out.
It was so much fun. When you arrive you sign in and are given the option to learn about the theme of the week and make a craft or sign out a backpack with the tools needed to go on an adventure hunt. Eleanor jumped at the chance to go exploring.
The backpack has binoculars, a magnifying glass, guide books, a small container to collect items, and a scarf with things to look for.
Eleanor loved it, and I’m so glad we came out. Seeing her exploring and learning about nature is great.
Once we collected our pine cones, wood, leaves and dirt we headed back to the education center to learn about the topic of the week First Flowers, and make a craft.
This was a great morning for us and since we’re a member at Reeves-Reed Arboretum it was Free, but the cost is only $5 a child for non members. It’s going on for the next few month on Saturdays from 9am-1pm with a different topic and craft each time. I personally love the idea of kids observing nature and watching it change and grow over these coming months. Spring is coming and I can’t wait.
