My kids always have a water bottle with them. We do for this for a few reasons, cost, hydration and for them to learn to be accountable for items. While walking around Costco I came across a 2 pack of water bottles and since the kids needed new ones I picked them up. They look fine, but I felt they needed a little more personality and that’s when I decided to pull out my Cricut to personalize them.
I’ve been a Cricut user for years, and the new machines make it so easy to create and cut.. I always have some vinyl on hand, and when I asked the kids what designs they wanted the fun began.
Camden is really into dinosaurs right now, so I went with that. We picked one out and then I added his name. It worked out great because I used an image from a cartridge I already had. Eleanor was a little more of a challenge. She loves the Disney Descendants movie, and Mal is just the coolest. So I found her symbol and uploaded it added her name and we were set.

How to Personalize Water Bottles
Supplies needed:
Water Bottle
Cricut
Vinyl
Transfer paper/tape
Step 1: Wash the water bottle
Step 2: Create your design in Cricut
Step 3: Put the vinyl face up on the mat and make sure your dial is set for vinyl
Step 4: Cut the image
Step 5: Remove any excess vinyl or pieces not needed
Step 6: Use the transfer paper to life your image
Step 7: Place on your water bottle
Tip: I usually let it set for a day before washing
Overall it was a simple and quick project that makes the kids feel so cool, and since it’s personalized I don’t have to worry about another kid having the same water bottle.
The more I use my Cricut the more I realize all I can do with it. I feel like this is just the start for all the cool things I can make and personalize.
Check out some of the other things I’ve made with my Cricut: Family Disney Shirt, Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust shirt, and 100 Super Days shirt.
There are super cute! How long does the Vinyl last on the water bottles?
We’ve used them all summer and they’re still going strong. We don’t put them in the dishwasher to make it last longer.
What type of vinyl do you use? I purchased the Cricut one, it doesn’t seem strong enough to hold the names.
Hi, I did the same thing but my decal seemed to come off.. i think due to summer heat..
any suggestion to make it last?
You could try putting a waterproof mod podge seal on it if you wanted. This one is dishwasher safe: http://amzn.to/2zwa366
I’ve had a bit of trouble with Cricut vinyl from time to time. I think I prefer Oracal 651 permanent vinyl and Siser HTV. At least for the standard varieties. I’ve got mugs with Oracal 651 on them that go in the dishwasher everyday and have been totally fine for almost a year now.
Do you mirror the design with HTV?
Yes if you’re using HTV you would want to mirror the design.
did you have to curve your images or names at all to get them straight on the bottle?
I didn’t curve it, but my tip would be to place the vinyl from the center point then work out. I don’t have luck keeping things straight when I start from one side.
