I learned early on that having a door mat is essential when owning a home, especially one with hardwood floors. The front door of your house is something that should be welcoming and reflect who you are, at least that’s what I think.
I like to consider my family a fun bunch and as I was looking for a cute spring/summer doormat I didn’t find anything that jumped out and said “Put me at your front door.” So I decided to make something and with the help of Eleanor we created a fun, easy, polka dot doormat.
Step 1: Pick your paint colors and stencil (we just wanted polka dots so we punched out a 3 1/2 inch circle)
Step 2: Decide your pattern, or if you just want to let the creativity juices lead you
Step 3: Apply the paint (you’ll want to sponge/dad the paint on, not brush it)
Step 4: Allow to dry for a few hours (we placed our in the sun)
Step 5: Put it at the door and start welcoming your friends
This project was super easy and fun. I loved that we made it together and Eleanor loved telling me which color and where to put the polka dots. There’s a sense of pride when we walk into the house, and she’s always telling people it’s our mat. What’s great is we can make different ones throughout the year and come up with the designs together.
Do you enjoy making things for your home with the kids? I would love to hear how you work together to make your home reflect your family!
