We recently had Eleanor’s 6th birthday party and it was a superhero theme. One of the things I love about birthdays is planning out all the fun decorations and details. Since she was having a Superhero theme I knew I wanted to make a cityscape, but I wanted to keep is simple and cheap.

So I dug around in the recycling bin and hit up the dollar tree so I could make a simple and fun cityscape for $1. That’s right $1. I pulled out some boxes from the recycling bin and purchased a black disposable tablecloth for $1. I had yellow paper and some packing tape.
All I had to do was wrap the boxes with the black tablecloth and while it depends on the sizes of boxes you have, but you should be able to wrap about 6-8 boxes easily. Then we just cut out yellow squares and taped them on. I used yellow paper I already had, but I like that it’s 2 different colors. Plus when it’s all done I just recycle the boxes and I don’t have to worry about throwing away something I spent a lot of money on.

To set the full scene I bought a black sheet years ago that I used to take photos of the kids when they were babies, so I know it would work great as a backdrop. If you don’t have a black sheet then you can use another black disposable tablecloth for the background. There you have a perfect and affordable cityscape.
