Eleanor is turning 4 this week and I’m feeling really nostalgic about her pregnancy, and New York City.  I have so many random, funny, beautiful, embarrassing memories that I thought a little flashback would be fun.

I can remember telling friends that I would never be pregnant in the city, but surprisingly I loved it.

I had horrible morning/afternoon/evening sickness for the first 20 weeks.  Mike and I often reminisce about the places I “got sick” in the city.  Backdoor of City Center Theatre before Fall for dance.
Behind the Astor Barber shop. Having a taxi stop in the middle of the street so I could open the car door.  My favorite story would be after dinner in the trashcan on a street corner of 18th and 5th ave, where a man walked up to me and said I hope you feel better and gave me a piece of gum.  It was nicorette, but hey who says people in NYC aren’t nice.  On that note I feel I should point out that someone did steal my pregnancy lollipops from my stoop, I mean really, come on Brooklyn!

I also have some great memories of St. Vincent’s Hospital, which is now closed.  My doctor was based there so I had all my appointments and even 2 emergency room visits for dehydration (I told you the all day sickness was brutal).  Which lead to some very strange memories.  Our favorite story, was about a Russian woman who kept yelling for the doctor to give her blood.  “Doctor, I need more blood”  which she didn’t, but that quote makes us laugh every time.

I can also remember hugging the toilet and asking Mike, why does this baby hate me so much?  It was hard, and the subway steps were tough, but people giving me a seat on the subway (L line is kind) and smiling at me or nodding because they understand the journey I was about to begin would be amazing is something that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

I feel very lucky to have had the pregnancy that I had, even with all the morning sickness I still loved being pregnant and I feel it just showed Eleanor’s “sassy” style.  The highlight for me was crossing off a bucket list item for being a guest on a TV show.  I was a makeover on Rachael Ray and loved the fact that I rocked maternity leather leggings and a leopard print top on national TV.

I still have no idea how I managed to get those pants on, but I can still and do wear them today!

Being pregnant is special and I was thankful everyday that I got to do something so amazing, even with all the challenges and aches I loved feeling her move around and watching my belly grow every week.  A co-worker measured me every Tuesday at the same time so we could see the progress.  I only wish I could wear my maternity clothes still since I felt way more stylish pregnant!
