Mother’s day with little ones is the best. Coming home from school they refuse to let you open their backpacks, and claim they have a big secret, and five minutes later forget and start to tell you, but then stop themselves. For me Mother’s Day is about spending time with the family.
As I layed in bed I could hear the elves working downstairs. Each one working on a special job. Then as they walk up the stairs I hear the giggles, and whisper of “be careful” “don’t drop it” “hold it with both hands please.” I of course pretend to be asleep and am so surprised to see a try with 2 donuts, a glass of chocolate milk and tons of sweet homemade gifts and cards.
Eleanor worked hard on a few school projects for me. I have 2 beautiful cards and homemade bath salt, which she quickly placed on the back of the toilet. The teacher also gave them very specific instructions to leave Mom alone when she’s soaking in the tub and to take any questions to the other grown ups in the house. That was the best part of that gift! Camden made me a beautiful purse card and was so proud of all the glitter he added to it.
My favorite was the gift from Mike and the kids. He made a stepping stone with their hands. I can’t wait to put it in the garden. I also know I’ll look back one day to how little they were in 2016 and think of these fun memories.
The rest of the morning I spent in bed watching TV, snuggling and calling/facetiming my Mom. I wish I could have spent the afternoon with her. I now understand how special Mother’s day is and am thankful to have to such amazing Mom.
My afternoon was spent with a fellow mom and our girls, doing a little rock climbing, finding a place for lunch, getting some great free curbside finds, laughing and singing. It was a beautiful day, and we ended it with my favorite thing. Crabs!
That’s right I said crabs. Whenever I’m asked what I would like to eat its crabs, Maryland Blue Crabs to be precise. I say skip the brunch and go for the dinner. So we had crabs, steaks, Moscow Mules and beer. We ate with our fingers, and I got to teach my friends how to pick crabs. Not to brag, but it’s a skill I have!
It was as close to perfect as I could get. The only thing that would have made it better was seeing my Mom. I hope all you fellow Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunts, Friends, Teachers and Caregivers also had a great Mother’s Day.
