Adventure, thrills and the feeling of playing in the wilderness is what you’ll get when you decide to spend the day at Mountain Creek Waterpark in Vernon, NJ.
Located in North NJ and about 90 mins from NYC this waterpark is filled with something for everyone, but if you’re a thrill seeker then get ready because you’ll be put to the test with some of the awesome slides and rides throughout the park.
The park is broken in different sections, and you will want to pay attention to the signs as they give great information about the level of the ride. It’s from Easy to High Thrills, and wow they really do mean High Thrills for a few of them!
What makes this park so unique is the fact that you feel as though you’re in the woods riding slides, jumping off a cliff or heading down a serious river rapid. This is just some of the fun and only about half the park.
Tip: I wish we had water shoes on as the ground is uneven, hilly and you’re not walking on a flat surface. I won’t lie it was kind of a pain to go back to the bottom or top to get your shoes, and we didn’t want to leave them because the blacktop could be super hot so please do your feet a favor and buy water shoes or socks.
Now little ones won’t feel left out as they have a fun splash zone, kiddie slides and mini lazy river to keep them active. My kids love just playing and relaxing in this area.
For us the favorite part of the day was getting some quiet time and lunch in our Cabana Suite while hanging by the wave pool. I’ve always been a fan of a wave pool and watching my kids get excited for the horn that signaled the waves would be coming was the best.
On a food note we actually really enjoyed our meal from the BBQ place, and my BBQ Disco Fries were so good. The pulled pork sandwiches were also thumbs up and of course who doesn’t want to end with some ice cream. You can’t take outside food into the park but know that they have a lot of options to choose from.
In another area of the park there’s the Surf Hill which my kids were totally bummed they couldn’t ride. We learned you had to weigh 90 pounds so this is for kids a little bigger and older. What they could ride was High Anxiety, which Eleanor and Mike took on while we watch. This ride is massive and they LOVED it.
For us it was a great day, but with lots of walking, don’t forget to buy water shoes and socks, and since it is very much a part of nature there are some hills and bumpy surfaces. I wish we were able to do more, but at a certain point in the day we just wanted to relax and enjoy each other sitting by the wave pool.
Another perk is with admission you can ride the skytram and we loved taking this up to the top of the hill where we could look out and see the trees and watch the bikers as they zoomed down the hill. It was a great way to just connect as a family.
