As the weather starts to warm up it means it’s time for outside fun and one of our favorite treats to cool down are; Snow Cones with our homemade snow cone syrup recipe.
I’ve always loves snow cones or shave ice. I find it to be refreshing and tasty, but wanted to come up with an affordable way to make syrups in different flavors, and turned to a childhood favorite to help: Kool-Aid!
Kool-Aid Snow Cone Syrup
Kool-Aid was flavorful fun drink of my childhood and makes the perfect snow cone syrup base.
Homemade Snow Cone Syrup recipe
1 pack Kool-Aid
1 cup water
2 cups sugar
- Add the water and sugar to a pot and bring to a boil, making sure all the sugar has dissolved.
- Remove the pot from the burner, add in a pack of the Kool-Aid and mix together.
- Allow the syrup to cool before putting it into a plastic bottle. I find using a funnel is very helpful when doing this.
These syrups are great because you don’t need to refrigerate them, and are good for about a month, just make sure you wipe down the tops and sides before storing.
Snow Cone Machines for home
What’s great about snow cones is the idea that it’s just some ice crushed up and syrup, or if it’s winter fresh snow! There are a lot of different machines out there, the Classic Snoopy Sno Cone Machine, Nostalgia snow cone makers, Shave iced machines and even an Olaf Snow Cone maker.
Little Snowie 2
A few years ago I invested in a nice snow cone machine,The Little Snowie 2 and I’m so glad. We use this all summer, have had snow cone stands, and pull it out for backyard parties or family reunions. It’s easy to use and clean and was well worth the money and we can use any kind of ice cubes in it, which is a huge benefit. What’s even better is it’s more like a shave ice which is my favorite! There’s also no blade so I don’t have to worry about the kids hurting themselves.
Overall these syrups will be enjoyed and bring something special to our summer with flavor and fun.
