We recently welcomed a new member to the family by way of Amazon and her name is Alexa. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about it’s the Amazon Echo, which also responds to the name Alexa.
As a family we debated for a while if we would add her. We know other’s have embraced her and enjoyed her humor of joke telling and fart noises, but I needed to know she would get along with everyone, especially the kids.
We’ve been to other homes and saw how the kids would ask her to play something or tell them a joke, and then Prime Day happened and we knew she needed to be a part of the family. At first we didn’t know where she should go, but as of now she’s in the kitchen near the table. Always ready to provide answers or afternoon dance parties.
The hardest part is when we all want to use her, listening to my youngest “Alexa, play One Call Away” ask her instead of me is a treat. She’s always at the ready to provide entertainment to all and my only regret is we didn’t have her join the family earlier.
In all honesty I first thought the Amazon Echo was something unnecessary and kind of ridiculous. I know it was one of Oprah’s favorite things last year, but didn’t see it being something I would spend my money on, but I did and I’m glad. Not only do we use it daily for questions, timers and music, it’s also brought us together more as a family. While making dinner the kids are in the kitchen dancing, instead of watching TV. At the dinner table if the kids ask us something we don’t have to pull our phones out, but can just ask Alexa which helps with the “No phones at the table” rule. If Mike asks me to remind him to do something I tell Alexa and she reminds me to remind him. I can also have her add things to my Amazon wishlist and cart. Looking to find out things around town, like when does the library open or closest pizza place she can answer this as well.
When we mention to people we have it the biggest question I get asked is “Do you like it?” and the family answer is “Yes”. I’m so glad we decided to add her to the family.
Do you have and Amazon Echo? What’s your favorite question to ask her?
Disclosure: I paid for this item personally, no discount or gift card was provided. I just wanted to share because people want to know about it!

I got one two weeks ago as a gift. Would love to chat about it next week!
Find it mainly useful for setting my daily alarm and News Briefings.
Oh yes we must chat.
I didn’t know anyone who had it, thanks for the info. I’m now more than curious …
We use it for so many random questions and the kids love it!
Alexa lives with us too and she is amazing!! My daughter loves when she plays Kidz Bop and tells knock knock jokes!
I totally forgot about Kidz Bop, but we’ll have to dance party with that tonight!
