I’m always looking for ways to be a little greener at the holiday. This year I hit up JoAnn Fabric on Black Friday and scoured some great holiday fabric for a project I’ve had in mind for a while; reusable fabric gift bag.
Fabric Gift Bags
I know what you’re thinking why would I make this when I can just buy them or use the ones I’ve collected over time. Well over time this will help the environment and I love the idea that down the road these bags will carry memories of Christmas morning and fun.

Supplies needed:
Fabric & thread
Scissors
Sewing machine
Optional: A holiday movie to watch while making these or listening to holiday carols
How to make a Fabric Gift Bag
Step 1: Lay the fabric out to decided what size bags you want to make. I used items I knew where different sizes and that would work for the future.
Step 2: Cut the fabric
Step 3: Match the fabric so the pattern is on the inside. Sew up the sides and then fold down the top and sew that up
Step 4: Turn the fabric bag right side out
Step 5: Trim any excess threads
Step 6: Place the gift in the bag and finish off with a ribbon, or pipe cleaner or just put a bow on top!
DIY Reusable Gift Bags
The best thing is you can either use scraps of fabric to make these or buy a few yards. I purchased 1.5 yards of 4 different fabrics and managed to make about 20 different bags. I’ve got really big bags and some little bags. (Note: if you pick a white or light color fabric you run the possibility of seeing through the bag so consider this a warning!)
The big questions is what fabric will you pick to make some reusable gift bags?
