It was only 3 years ago when we first moved into our home and I remember how important it was for us to start the house with a clean slate. I recently had the chance to meet HGTV’s Jonathan Scott at a Swiffer & Mr. Clean event where I got some great tips and ideas for a welcome neighbor gift basket.

Swiffer Event with Jonathan Scott

I personally remember taking a day and cleaning all the new nooks and crannies of the house before we brought in anything. I wanted it to be as clean as possible, but was ready to get our things moved in. We knew that people would be walking all over the floors so I wish I had the Swiffer Wet Jet to easily clean things. I also got the tip to keep a basket by the door for shoes. This way your guests don’t track in new dirt.

Swiffer Wet JetI can also remember immediately wanting to unpack my kitchen, but wasn’t sure where to put everything. Remember it’s okay to rearrange things to figure out where you want it. Be open to switching things around. Heck I think I did that just last year. Keeping things fresh and getting in there to do a clean is good, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser will get that Molasses off the shelf easily. Oh and a fun tip from Jonathon was to put a dish next to your sink with the Magic Eraser this way it’s easy to grab when you need it, and you’ll stay on top of things more.

Don’t forget about all those door knobs and older fixtures that have been around for years. We have some originals in our home (1928) so cleaning them up with the Magic Eraser brings them back to life with just a quick clean.

Now when you have a chance to talk with Property Brother Jonathan Scott what else would you ask him then “What 5 things should you put in a Welcome Neighbor Gift Basket?”

Swiffer Sweeper or Wet Jet
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (these also work great getting tags off of dishes or glasses)
3M Command Hooks (use these to hang the Swiffer Sweeper or Wet Jet)
Digital Tape Measure
Multi Tool

I created one with a few of these items and added in a Swiffer Duster because it’s cute and functional. Plus I just took a box from recycling and wrapped it with fun paper. This way they can just recycle it with the rest of the boxes.

Now my advice for the card is to make sure you include your names and address. Nothing is worse then getting a wonderful gift and not remembering where you live or your names. Writing The Paquette Family is nice, but write everyone’s name and the kids ages if you want. Making a neighbor feel welcome makes them feel like a part of the community, and who knows they may help you out if you get locked out one day!

Disclaimer: I attend this event as media and was given a goodie basket as swag. All thoughts are my own.
