Not everyone has a fireplace to hang their stockings with care each Christmas, or if you’re like us and have extra stocking sets you want to hang them as a decoration, which made me think I need to make something fun so I made a The Stockings Were Hung sign.

I got my inspiration from Twas the Night Before Christmas “…and the stockings were hung by the chimney with care..” it’s a classic line that everyone knows and perfect for this project.
I bought my piece of wood from Michaels (don’t forget to find a coupon if it’s not on sale) and looked through my paint to see what colors I had available. I chose a lime green and holiday red.

For the letters I went to my Cricut. I used the Suburban font sized with white vinyl. This is also where I started to forget to take pictures. After placing all the letters in a straight line I used modpodge to seal it up.
As for the hooks, I bought them at Target, but the screws were too long so I had to replace them with shorter ones. Note: I would probably go to Home Depot or Lowes for the hooks next time.
Overall this was a really easy and quick project, especially if you have a Cricut or Silhouette. What’s also great is the color choices are personal. I thought about doing a white sign with red letters or vice versa, or a gold and red one. Lots of options.
In the end I love how it turned out and that we’re able to display Mike’s family stockings for the season, and we also have extra spots for family who will be spending Christmas with us.
If you decide to make one please share it with me, I would love to see yours!
