Family Disney Shirts
DIY – Family Disney Shirts Supplies needed:
- Cricut
- Mickey & Friends Cartridge
- Mickey Font Cartridge
- Iron-on vinyl (I used 4 different kinds black, red, glitter black & glitter red)
- T-shirts or 3/4 sleeve baseball tees (make sure you pre-wash them)
- Iron (I used my travel/craft Rowenta Steam iron)

How to make Disneyland Shirts
If you don’t have a Cricut you can still do this, but just use scissors to eyeball and cut out your shape,
I decided to use the classic Mickey ears, so I cut them out at 5 inches for adults, and 3.75 for the kids. For each letter I used the Mickey font and kids.
How to make Disney World Shirts with Cricut
Settings: Make sure your Cricut it set to cut in mirrored image and your machine is on the Vinyl Iron-on tab. If you’re cutting with glitter iron-on vinyl then you should click over one more spot.
- Place your Iron-on vinyl on the mat face down. That’s the shiny side.
- After you cut out the designs remove excess vinyl, aka: weed.

- Place the cut out were you want it to go on the t-shirt and then take a blanket or cheesecloth or thin towel (I like to use the baby blanket you get from the hospital) and iron on the design. I love having an iron in my craft room, but for this project I pulled out both irons.
- DO NOT move the iron all over. You just want to place it on top and then move to the next spot. Make sure you take your time doing this. When you think you’re done start to slowly remove the plastic, if you see the vinyl lifting at all start again.
- If you want to add layers you have to do each on separate. For the letter and bow just place them where you want them and repeat the previous step.
Note: This worked fine, but I wish I had cut the letter and bow out on the base in different layers. This way I knew it was in the right spot. It’s called slicing and here is what it looks like.
The bigger the cut out the more time it will take. You don’t want to lose an ear half way through the day so don’t speed through this and make sure you press down and get a good seal.
Matching Family Disney Shirts
Overall I love how these shirts turned out, and made 3/4 sleeved ones for our trip in February. We got both compliments and great photos the days we wore them. It brought us together as a family and since I didn’t put a year on them we can wear them again in the future.

Love this! Thanks for the tutorial. How did you make the designs glittery?
I actually buy the glitter vinyl so it’s easier, and doesn’t flake!
Very cute!
How does it hold up after going through the wash? & what kind of tshirts can you use?
I recommend washing the shirt inside out, and if you can avoid drying it will last longer, but I dry mine. I find they hold up pretty well, but you really need to press down to make sure the vinyl seals to the shirt. As for the shirts, anything cotton will work great, I’ve not tried a workout wear type shirt so I’m not sure about that. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask!
Thank you for the quick response! My daughter’s 10th birthday is on the 23rd so I’m trying to design a shirt. There will be a LOT of family there so trying to find a tank top that flatters everyone is a bit difficult. Thank you again for the advice. Your shirts are very cute, keep up the great work.
Have you tried layering glitter on top of glitter without subtracting it?
I did that originally, but then the letters and bows started to fall off after a few washes. If you’re using it once or maybe twice it’s fine, but it’s better long term to slice it. Hope this helps.
Where can I get the vinyl and the glitter
If you click on the links above it will take you to vinyl directly. I hope this helps.
Where did you get the image with the cut out bow area on the Mickey head?
I can’t find the Mickey image on my Mickey with Friends cartridge. Did you get it somewhere else?
what if you don’t have a cricut machine? Would a regular printer work as well?
If you don’t have a cricut you can try designing it and then printing, but I don’t know that it will work as well or hold up as nicely.
Can you make me the vinyls and I will pay you for them?
What size did you use for the bow and letters?
hi im very new at using my cricut and im trying to make my cousin a little mermaid t-shirt how would I go about doing that. I have the Disney cartridge kinda know how to use the cricut design space just need to know how would i would put the picture on vinyl in full color. thank you in advance.
Welcome to Cricut. The best tips I can give are to explore the Cricut design space. I’m not sure I understand your questions, but are hoping to print an image on vinyl and then cut it with the Cricut?
Hi! I am going to try this, but am curious how you achieved the “slicing” between the Mickey head and the bow? The Mickey is on the “Mickey font” cartridge and the bow is on the “Mickey and friends” cartridge, and I’m not sure how you would combine the two.
Thanks so much for your help!
Hi Liz, You would need to rights to both images. If you’ve purchased them though then you can easily add them to your project in Cricut Design Space. That’s one of the things I love is that you can put all different images from different cartridges or from access. I say give it a try! Good luck.
Can you give detailed instructions on how to do this? If I purchase both cartridges and place both images in the design, will the cricut cut out the bow inside the Mickey head for me?
Hello! I love your family shirts! Where did you purchase the kids size? The smallest size on the amazon link you included above https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014WD9ULU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=subwifcitli0d-20&linkId=0e5e03b058c5e34150eddb010aed5ea2 is XS (but out of stock) which I think might still be too big for my 6-yr-old daughter. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas!
Here’s the children’s shirts. Your 6 year old would probably be a Small for the kids: https://amzn.to/2Ok2tTl
