Magical things can happen in a garden. We watch our flowers and food grow, and think about fairies gracing it with play. So I decided make a fairy garden for ours.
I was actually given the challenge from Chick-fil-a to take one of their salad containers and upcycle it. I thought it would be fun to use more then just the container, so I thought about other things we use, fork, spoon, straws and came up with a playful fairy garden.
Supplies needed:
Salad container from Chick-fil-a (they have a new Spicy Chicken Southwest)
Plastic Fork
Plastic Spoon
2 bendable straws
2 sauce containers
String
small shim
Hot Glue Gun
Paint (I used Rustoleum spray paint I had around the house)
plants & rocks
Step 1: Enjoy your salad from Chick-fil-a. I personally love the Cobb.
Step 2: Wash and clean the supplies
Step 3: Break the fork and spoon into 2 at the neck of each
Step 4: Hot glue 2 bendable straws to form the frame of the swing
Step 5: Glue the spoon on top of the spoon handle to form the birdbath
Step 6: Glue the string for the swing to the bottom of the fork prongs
Step 7: Glue 2 empty sauce packet on top of each other like steps
Step 8: Paint the birdbath, swing base, swing seat and steps
Step 9: Once dry then add the string to the swing base on each side securing it with hot glue.
Step 10: Break a shim to make a small sign. I cut Welcome Fairies with my Cricut and then glued it to the fork handle.
Step 11: Glue all the items into and on the salad container
Step 12: Add plants, dirt, rocks or whatever you think your fairies will like
Step 13: Place in your garden and enjoy!
It seems like a lot of steps, but it was pretty simple and the kids LOVED the idea that we were making a play area for fairies. I loved that we were talking about upcycling and using items that are common to our dinners out at Chick-fil-a.
Thanks so much Chick-fil-a for challenging me. Here are some other great upcycle projects I’ve seen, Eye Spy Game, Sand Writing, Party Chandelier or the perfect First Aid Storage!
