We recently took our first trip to the Outer Banks for a week with family. As we searched for a place to stay we found a perfect beach house in the town of Avon, NC. It was a quaint small town and had just the right amount of fun, food and relaxation. I’ve pulled together some things to do in Outer Banks, Avon so you can make the most of your time there.
As we arrived into town we had to wait to check into our house so we check out this Tavern and enjoyed some wonderful food, and photo ops with Kinnakeet Pete. The fries were a favorite for us!
If you’re looking for a tasty fresh donut in town check out Stu’s they come out fresh and you get to pick your toppings. It was a wonderful breakfast treat right in town.
There will be days when it’s rainy or too windy or you just need a change from the beach and Studio 12 has plenty of artistic fun. You can create jewelry or paint your own pottery. Eleanor and I just missed a jewelry making class but they were super awesome in accommodating another for us a little later. They were so helpful and I wished we had gone in earlier than we did because we could have done more.
Oceanas Bistro & Restarant
Sometimes you just need to eat out and we loved the menu at here. Lots of local seafood and very creative menu. Plus it was a great price. It’s a little small dining room, so if you’re a big party it could be hard, but if you’re up for a late lunch you’ll be fine.
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse
Not too far (about 10 miles) south of Avon is the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Take a ride to visit this so you can say you saw America’s tallest lighthouse. This is also where we got our 1st National Parks Passport Stamp.
Sunrise Seafood Market
We love to have one night of sitting around and picking crabs and we were able to get crabs and shrimp for a great price here and enjoy them at home taking our time to pick.
Island Time Cups & Cones
Lets not forget what’s summer without a trip to get ice cream! This bright pink landmark can’t be missed and has both ice cream and shave ice. So it’s a winner for everyone.
For us the fun of the week was spending time in the house with all the family playing games,(affiliate) Happy Salmon was a popular one for all ages! We also enjoyed a lot of time on the beach during the day and at night, looking for ghost crabs.
Avon was a wonderful little town and I hope to get back soon to enjoy the relaxing vibe and beautiful beaches.
