You’ve booked your Disney Cruise, Now What? Well now is when the fun and excitement of planning and anticipation of cruising can begin. I found that there were a lot of things I didn’t know about with Disney Cruising so I’ve pulled together a list of what to know and do after you booked your Disney Cruise.
Check your passports and license
When traveling on a Disney Cruise a passport is super helpful, it’s not required. I always recommend looking to see when your passport will expire right after you book travel. Nothing is worse than finding out a few days before it expired a week ago, and remember a child passport expires every 5 years. If you don’t have a passport you can use a Driver’s license, and for children you would need to bring their birth certificates. So plan ahead and find these items.
Join a DisBoard and or Facebook Group
I discovered this late in the game, but if you go to DisBoard. Just enter in the dates and name of the ship you’ll be on and you can connect with other people who will be cruising as well. You can also check Facebook for a group. It’s worth it to check out because you have opportunities to learn more about cruising, Disney Pirate Night fun, and if you want to join a Fish Extender group, which was an awesome experience for us.
Decorating is totally optional, but it’s become tradition to decorate your stateroom door. When looking down a long row of similar doors it’s nice to see different personalities and love for Disney. I love how my Magnet Wreath turned out and it was fun to walk to the halls just looking at all the doors and different fish extenders
Setup Disney Cruise Line Experience
As a 1st time cruiser mark your calendar 75 days prior to departure to log in make selections. This is where you’ll select your Port Arrival time, try and get the earliest one possible. You can also sign up for character meet and greets, your dinner time (it’s either early dining 5:30pm or late dining 8pm). Signing up your kids for the Kids Oceaneeer Club, and any additional experiences both on and off the ship that you would like to purchase. Maybe an adult only dinner at Palo or a special Bibbity Bobbity Boutique, or Shore excursions. Lots of additional fun to purchase.
Download the Disney Cruise Line App
It may be a long time till your cruise, but it’s fun to have on your phone and set up the countdown so you can look forward to an amazing vacation. It will be very useful on the ship, with daily itineraries and locations of activities and communicating with other guests.
Book a hotel the night before
I know you’ve just spent a ton of money, but I recommend if you’re flying to come in the day prior and get a hotel. This way you don’t have to worry about a delayed flight, or traffic. You can start your vacation off relaxing and enjoying the fun you’re about to have.
Every Disney Cruise has a pirate night. You can either go all out by dress up in costumes, or maybe you just want to rock some awesome Pirate shirts. All guests will receive a bandanna in their stateroom that night so it’s all about what works for you. Just keep your eyes peeled for great deals on pirate gear prior to your vacation if you want to dress for the evening.
Overall a Disney Cruise is an experience like no other. We had a great time planning and preparing for ours, and can’t wait to go on our next one.
